Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Studies (CCMRS) Bogor Agricultural University is the first studies institution in field coastal and marine zone development in Indonesia. CCMRS is supporting the Government of Indonesia and related parties in managing research and training program concerning coastal and marine resources development, based on an optimum and sustainable principles for the maximum benefits of the entire nation. In managing programs, CCMRS always find and implementing new approach in coastal and marine resources utilization method management and development in Indonesia.

Vision, mission and objectives of CCMRS to give significant contribute for coastal and marine zone development in Indonesia. CCMRS improvement is commitment for staff through continue development and revision, include development of research and training programs, cooperation, resources, organization, community services, dissemination, publication and promotion

Coastal and marine resources as natural wealth of Indonesia must be managed in an optimum way based on sustainable principle.

In order to derive a sustainable and optimum model for coastal and marine resources development, it needs a close cooperation and understanding between related institution and agencies involved in coastal and marine zone development on the regulation and the execution of resources utilization.

Therefore, integrated coastal and marine zones management is urgently needed in order to preserve the zone’s ecosystem properly. Hence, as a new paradigm, it is important that all parties involved need to acquire adequate capacity in coastal and marine management disciplines. In addition, the acquisition should be followed by availability of decent software and physical means, such as research centers or study centers, which specifically dedicated to coastal and marine resources management.

In this spirit, IPB founded the Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Studies on 21 August 1996, established through a Rector Decree number 080/Um/1996. It is hoped hat CCMRS would be able to fill the national and international needs as well as actively participate in sustainable coastal and marine resources development field.
